Parquetry floors are works of art. Whether it's classic herringbone, chevron, or basket weave, each block is laid at precise angles to create the pattern. Sanding these floors takes patience and the right technique — go against the grain and you'll scratch half the blocks.
We sand parquetry with the pattern, not against it. That means multiple passes at different angles with progressively finer grits. It takes longer than standard floors, but the result is a smooth, uniform surface that shows off the design.
Gaps between blocks are common in older parquetry — timber moves, adhesive fails. We fill gaps with matching filler or timber slivers depending on the size. If blocks are missing or damaged, we source matching timber and fit replacements before sanding.
Staining can transform the look of parquetry. A darker stain adds drama, while a natural finish lets the timber speak for itself. We use water-based finishes for durability and quick re-coat times — most parquetry jobs are back to light use within 24 hours.
