For a deeper clean once a week, use a lightly dampened microfibre mop with Bona Floor Cleaner -- it is pH-neutral, residue-free, and specifically designed for polyurethane-finished timber. Never use vinegar, bleach, steam mops, or generic household cleaners on timber floors. These products can cloud the finish, strip the protective coating, or cause moisture damage to the boards.
Protect high-traffic areas with felt pads under furniture legs and use mats at exterior doorways to catch grit before it reaches your timber. In the kitchen, place a runner in front of the sink and stove where spills are most likely. If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed -- dog claws are one of the most common causes of surface scratches we see during maintenance inspections.

Spotted Gum tends to mellow and deepen, while European Oak can yellow slightly under intense sun. Use curtains, blinds, or UV-filtering window film in rooms with large north- or west-facing windows. Even with perfect daily care, the polyurethane finish will gradually wear down in high-traffic zones -- hallways, living areas, and kitchens. Rather than waiting until the timber itself is exposed and damaged, schedule a maintenance recoat every three to five years. This involves a light abrasion of the existing finish (no heavy sanding) followed by a fresh coat of Bona Traffic HD or Bona Mega. A recoat takes one day and costs a fraction of a full sand-and-polish, and it resets the clock on your floor's protection.
